Standing Committees

Education (Chair: Deb DePietro)
The Education Committee is charged with identifying, and contacting guest speakers, securing venues for educational events, and arranging for guest travel and accommodations. 

Humanitarian Action (Chair: David Finnegan)
The Humanitarian Service Committee is charged with humanitarian fundraising and service. Fundraising activities have included (1) Holiday gift wrapping, (2) the Annual Light the Night walk, (3) Comic Con, and (4) RI PRIDE. Service opportunities include (1) Habitat for Humanity builds, (2) Blood Drives, (3) Adopt A Highway cleanup. The Committee welcomes members interested in any of these activities. 

Media Relations (Chair: Tony Houston)
The Media Relations Committee is responsible for external messaging and outreach to the public. The Committee welcomes members interested in (1) maintaining press contacts, (2) drafting press releases, position papers, and letters to the editor, (3) and maintaining and posting to the HRI blog, public Facebook page, and/or Twitter account. 

Membership (Chair: Chuck Flippo)
The Membership Committee is responsible for internal messaging and outreach to new members. The Committee welcomes members interested in (1) managing the HRI membership list, (2) announcing meetings on MeetUp and the Facebook Group page, and (3) welcoming new members. 

Social Action (Chair: Debbie Flitman)
The Social Action Committee is charged with shaping the social justice agenda for HRI, identifying potential coalition partners, and maintaining those relationships. The Committee welcomes members interested in serving as HRI liaisons to (1) the ACLU of RI, (2) HRI Coalition Partners, and (3) RI state officials on social issues.
